Portfolio

During this project I learned how to use many different tools to properly model a car. I used the bevel and soft and harden tool to soften out some of the edges and make some of the other edges look more straight. I picked this project because I wanted to try modeling something different than a building so I modeled a car. My greatest strength would be my attention to small details to make sure everything looks good. My weakness is probably to set up lighting to look nice. With what I learned I am going to try and add more small details to the car and make it look even better. I would change some of the colors and I would also add the interior of the car. Overall I liked working on this car and modeling it.

In this project I learned how animating a person or project is easier if you have something rigged properly. When I was messing with the different setting it became easier to use and manipulate them. With this project I became better at trying to move 3D objects and making movements look realistic. My worst part was trying to manipulate certain body parts to work properly. With what I have learned I am going to try and see if I can rig my own projects this well.
In this project I learned how to rotoscope and how to draw better in 2D. I learned that to rotoscope all you have to do is make a layer and then draw over a video. With this I just filmed myself and then I started to draw and color over my video to make it look cartoonish. My greatest strength was to color my project and my biggest weakness was the whole drawing part. With what I have learned think I will start to try and make more rotoscopes. If I was to change anything I would take more time on the details.

Quarter 1 reflection

This quarter I decide that I wanted to model a Lamborghini  huracan. I started with searching what type of car I wanted to model and after looking through a few different cars I ended up with a Lamborghini huracan. I found some reference images so that I could properly model my car and then I started with one polygon and then I extruded the faces to slowly model the car. There has been a lot of different challenges from faces not working properly and also different parts of the car being hard to model. I am planning to model the whole outside and inside to make sure that the car looks as realistic as possible. Finally I am going to try and smooth out the edges and focus on the fine details to make sure the car looks nice. I also want to make sure that the texturing and lighting also looks nice.

Professional Project

The project was about making a life-like bunny in maya and trying to animate it. It took a group of artists to create the bunny and each person worked of different things. The project was also used in a video about carrot's. They started off making the model of the bunny and making sure that it had the right body shape and features. Then they added small details like the stretching of skin and the texture on the skin. Finally they added the fur and rigged it so that the movements looked fluent and life-like.
The story that was told was that the bunny wanted a carrot from the guy but he wouldn't give it to him. It shows the bunny follow ing the guy and destroying the things that the guy has. I would like to learn how to rig and create fur like in the project. I have already learned how to model and texturize objects. The group overall made a very convincing rabbit and made the movements and model all look great. There is not many things they could improve on because they show off the emotions of the bunny and make it act like it was real. Overall this was a very good project and shows the process that they worked through.

Professional Article Review

Animation of 'Archer'

Neil Holman and Chad Hurd give insight on the process of animating 'Archer'. They show how they create their storyboards to get an idea of how everything should look before animating he characters. They also talk about how they look at the lighting in a situation and then put it into a 3D environment and then make still images of it so then their painters can paint the lighting onto the scene. They also talk about how they first make the background on a storyboard and then they make a 3D model of it so they can get the depth and then they draw the background. The creators of Archer also use photos to reference how characters should be positioned. The author is trying to prove how they make their animations and the process they use to make everything look good. The strengths of the article is how they convey their thoughts and how they talk you through everything they do.
I thought the article was really cool because they told you how they made all their animations and the process that they went through. The author does a good job at showing how everything was made and the process of their animations. I thought it was cool how they showed that all the characters faces and expressions were just different pieces that they could put on or take off instead of having tons of different faces. The use of 3D and 2D together helps give depth to the 2D animation and make sure that everything looks realistic and set up properly.

EOY Reflection

I learned some new techniques in some of the programs that we learned like how to add some of the effects that after effects has to my projects. This was important because it helped me create some cool animations or add more to an animation that i already had. There were also many problems with learning to use some of the effects because they would only react certain ways.
I learned how to collaborate better when we worked in our stop motion animation project. It helped me learn how to work better with others and how to use everyone's skills to make a project look better. This also led to some challenges with finding out how to implement everyones skill in a project.
I improved on my communication skills with talking more about my projects and communicating with people around me to get helpful insight on my projects. This is important because it helped set me up for how work will actually be. There were not many challenges except when i could not find what i wanted to say.
I improved on my project management by making sure i had enough time to finish my project and making sure that my project was done on time. This helped me with keeping track of all my projects and learning time management skills. There have been a few problems when i was getting close to running out of time on a project.
I have gained some leadership skills with working in groups. This is important because it helped me understand how to find out the strengths and weaknesses of others. There were some challenges because i am an introvert and do not like to always be the leader.
My greatest strengths would be in 3D animation and special effects. I have improved in these areas by trying to model harder objects and by trying to find new special effects to use and how to implement them more. I still need to work on my modeling skills and how to rig characters and i also need to work on some of my special effects to make them look more realistic. My weaknesses are 2D animation and drawing. I have somewhat improved on my drawing and they have started to look better and my 2D animations have also improved. I still need to work on my drawing a bit more and how to correctly time and move objects in 2D.
I am going to go back and improve some of my projects and try to do more challenging work with my animations. I would go back and change some of my animations so that the timing and movement looks better. With the skills i have learned this year i will be able to improve on all my animations and make them look more realistic and smooth.

Impossible but plausible

In real life nothing could walk through a mirror, but in cartoons it is plausible for mickey mouse to walk through the mirror if he thinks it is pathway. It was possible to make this plausible by making the mirror move like a piece of plastic when mickey walked through it.

When mickey mouse eats the walnut he then starts to grow to an enormous size. But it was made plausible by the animators because  in the world he is in anything can happen.

Micke gets shuffled into the cards and then more cards land on him. This is not possible because cards can not shuffle themselves and mickey mouse can not be laid flat like a card. But this is plausible because the force of the cards falling on mickey flatten him out.

A nut cracker is an inanimate object that cant act on its own accord but in this cartoon the nut cracker has its own life and actions. This is plausible because the other inanimate objects have life to them also.

In this scene mickey kicks some of the cards into 4 different piles. He kicks 5 cards into each pile but then when the cards come up there are more than 5 cards and they are on order from 9 to ace. This is not possible because some cards just showed up into the piles and the probability of them being in order from ace to 9 is low. But the animators made this scene go faster so most people would not tell that he did not kick all he cards into the piles.

Stop Motion Project

For this project everyone was put into groups and then each group got to choose what they wanted their stop motion video to be about. My group chose to have our story about two people getting into a fight with paper airplanes and shurikens. First we started out making the storyboard for the whole fight and setting up the scene. After we got our storyboard done we started to find out where to take our pictures and what way we wanted to film them. Finally we got to filming and setting up all the shots so that our video would look good.

For the beginning of the video we had Laura walk in from a door and sit down at a desk while i am sitting on the couch so that we could set up the start of the battle. Then we had a blue piece of paper fall off of a notebook and turn into a paper airplane and fly up and hit Laura. This started the conflict between both characters. After this Laura makes a paper shuriken and throws it me. The shuriken lands next to me on the notebook and then i notice it and start to make three paper shurikens so that I can throw them back at her. After i make the shurikens i turn and throw them at Laura and they land on the chair and table. After this Laura and I both make paper airplanes and throw them at each other. This leads to both of us making the origami-ha and throwing the big ball of paper at each other. Finally you can see Laura and I "dead" laying on the ground.

This project took us a while to make because it involved taking a lot of pictures and making sure that the position of everything was correct. We used a green screen or some parts so we had to get rid of the green screen and then make sure that those parts look correct in the video. Then we took all of the images and put them in after effects and made sure that the timing and placement was all in the correct spot. After that we found sounds to go along with the video and added those to the project. Finally we got all of the effects into place and made some final touches to make the project look good.
